- Tiger Woods won the 1999 WGC-American Express Championship there in a playoff with Miguel Ángel Jiménez, after a triple bogey on the 17th.
- Jiménez made an albatross on the 17th at the 1994 Volvo Masters, holing a 3-iron from 212 yards.
- Since 2023 it has hosted LIV Golf's event in Andalusia.
Suits
- Narrow fairways lined with large cork oaks that block approaches demand accurate driving to the correct side.
- Greens are mostly small and fast, with hard-to-read breaks, so precise iron play and touch are essential.
- The routing changes direction often, so the two prevailing winds hit from every angle.
- A severe test suited to accurate, patient players rather than long hitters.
Signature hole
No. 17, Los Gabiones
A par 5 with water in front of the green, reshaped by Ballesteros in 1993, that decided key moments at the 1997 Ryder Cup and the 1999 WGC event.
